About Me
I actually have not been running at an endurance level for too long. I ran my first 1/2 Marathon in 2006 after which I swore I would never run a marathon. However, not more than 5 months later I found myself in San Francisco running the Nike Women's Marathon. After that I was hooked on the endurance events and discovered I loved going out for a run that lasted hours. I have since run marathons in France, Barbados and New York, discovering that running is a great way to see other cities and countries.
The next step evolved from road running to trail running. I discovered a Canadian company, 5 Peaks, that offered local trail races in the Edmonton area. Finally, trails and endurance together led me to the world of Ultra Racing. Although I consider myself still relatively new to the sport and certainly have no aspirations to win any of the events I enter, I am proud of my accomplishments to date. This includes successfully soloing Death Race -125km (2010 and 2011), Blackfoot Ultra - 100 km (2011), Blackfoot Ultra- 50 mile (2010), Fat Ass - 50 km (2011), Fat Ass - 25 km (2010). I have also relayed Death Race 2 years leading up to my soloing in 2010. Next up is Iron Horse 100 Miles in October of this year!
The next logical step with Ultra Running seemed to be to register for a staged event. An acquaintance who ran Atacama in March of this year inspired me to choose a Racing the Planet event as my first step into a multi-day staged event.
My love for leading a healthy lifestyle not only inspired me in my running ventures, it also led me to a career change. After working for 15 years in Human Resources for a Telecommunciations company, I quit to pursue a full-time career in the fitness industry. I am very fortunate to work for the Pulse Generator, an employee fitness centre within the U of A Hospital.
I consider myself very fortunate to have a my health, wonderful family and friends and a career that I love and does not feel like work. I feel strongly that I should give back in some way and have volunteered in various capacities for various organizations. I am bringing my commitment to supporting others to this event, which is why I am fundraising for the Davey Fund for Brain Research.
